Preparing Your Motorcycles for Winter Storage

Prepping Your Motorcycles Fill up the fuel tank and use a fuel stabilizer. If you only follow one step after finding a storage facility make this the one. Old fuel becomes gunky and thick quickly –, especially in our harsh winter temperatures. This will get clogged up in all of your motorcycles parts, making it difficult to start your motorcycle when spring comes. In the worst-case scenario, you could end up spending a few hundred dollars having your carburettor cleaned out. Clean your motorcycle! It should not be stored while still dirty. We found an excellent specific guide on how to clean a motorbike. If your bike has a lot of chrome this will help avoid pitting. Tips for Winter Car Storage

Although living in a part of the world that has four seasons does have its benefits, one thing we face in Harrisburg that people in places like California or Florida don’t have to is the need to store seasonal vehicles. Let’s face it, there are some vehicles that just don’t do well during the Pennsylvania winter months either because they don’t handle well in snow or because you just don’t want the wear and tear on them that winter can bring. Whether you are storing a collector vehicle or a lightweight convertible, there are some basics you need to keep in mind in Camp Hill, Harrisburg, Lemoyne or Summerdale. Shelter:   Make sure your vehicle is sheltered in a place that is dry, reasonably warm and preferably out of the sun. Storing Your Car During Winter

Best Practices: Storing Your Car During Winter People in northern Canada know about winter. We are pleased to have Troy from Edmonton Alberta’s Auto Obsessed detailing business share his best practices for winter car storage. CLEAN – clean your car inside and out and dry it thoroughly before putting it in long-term storage.  Dirt and residue could damage your car’s finish if left on the surface for long periods. Auto Obsessed has a series of video guides to help you do this work. FUEL – Gasoline can go bad if it’s stored for months. Among other things, it can oxidize and form deposits which could ultimately clog your fuel system. Two tips for your fuel: 1) add a fuel stabilizer to your gas to prevent chemical change and 2) keep the fuel tank as close to full as possible to avoid condensation. OIL– As oil gets used, corrosive materials get suspended in […]

Garage Spaces are Better than Normal Self Storage

Garage storage units are low cost compared to Self Storage.  Why? Well, for one thing, the owner’s overheads are lower for rental garages because there is no office at the site and less mechanical maintenance. Longer access hours. Most self storage limits access to after 7 am and they lock up by 8 pm. Your Harrisburg garage unit is open to you 24 hours day. More space for less money means you don’t need to sell so much at a garage sale or just give it away. We all need to declutter but we also know that Harrisburg garage sale prices are dirt cheap. So keep it longer until you or your family need that “good stuff”. Hobby space. Our Harrisburg garage units are big enough to set up a hobby bench or workbench. Have some quiet space away from home to pursue your interests.
